Therapy for Women in Midlife & Menopause

A refuge for exploration, understanding, healing & empowerment

What are some challenges facing midlife women?

Hello, I’m Lynda. As well as being a woman in midlife, I’ve worked with many midlife women in my therapy practice. It’s a period when questioning and shifts can begin – in our identities, relationships, or just life!

Through experience I’ve identified common challenges facing midlife women.

Falling hormone levels – you may be struggling with sleep, hot flushes, low libido, anxiety, mood swings, forgetfulness, changing self-image and more.

Lasting impacts of childhood – our parents’ generation weren’t always able to acknowledge emotions or mental health struggles, potentially impacting their ability to parent. Many of us in midlife experienced a childhood where compliance was expected, but emotions not always tolerated. If you had to ‘be a good girl’ to feel accepted, it can set up a pattern of people-pleasing, low self-esteem, and suppressing emotions.

Others’ expectations – needing to be a ‘good’ woman, wife, partner, mother, may have meant neglecting your own needs. Resentment is common but hard to acknowledge and express because, as women, we’ve often been conditioned to quietly cope.

Grief & Loss – this life stage can involve multiple and overlapping forms of grief including loss of fertility, loss of and ageing parents, children needing you less, or regrets – “the paths not taken”.

Changing relationships – relationships can face renewed pressure, scrutiny, or transformation. Your emotional wellbeing may be straining your relationships. Or perhaps you’re asking if a current long-term relationship still fits for you.

Work challenges – you could feel even more tired and burned out, lacking concentration and motivation. Maybe you fear being judged or sidelined by colleagues. Or you’re feeling ‘less than’ as you step back from full-time work.

Individual therapy for women in midlife

As a midlife, perimenopausal woman – I get it. I offer a refuge free of expectation and judgement. A space where you can reflect, reconnect with yourself, and deepen your self-awareness.

In my practice I offer a combination of talk therapy and EMDR therapy to suit your needs.

Talk therapy – space for you to say things out loud, untangle your emotions, explore and make sense of your past and present.

EMDR therapy– midlife doesn’t just bring new challenges – it can also re-activate old emotional wounds.

Talk therapy can bring understanding of patterns at a thinking level but this doesn’t always change your feelings. The same feelings can keep coming up, no matter how much insight you have. This is where EMDR is really powerful.

With EMDR I help you reconnect with your emotions using healing tools that emphasise the connection between your mind and body. Helping you to confront and overcome patterns that come up as things like anxiety, low mood or feeling less than.

My aim is to help women in midlife feel good enough about themselves to embrace this phase of life with clarity and strength.

Online therapeutic groups for women in midlife & menopause

As at April 2026, I’m working on expanding therapy for women in midlife, to online therapeutic groups.

Groups offer unique benefits, which differ from individual therapy, including:

  • A place to learn and grow through connection, support and sharing your experiences with other midlife women

  • Your own experiences are unique, but you may still resonate with the experiences of others

  • A place to be helped via the collective wisdom of others, but also to help others by sharing your own insights

How would it work?

Groups sessions would take place online, bi-weekly and be 90mins long to allow for sharing and structured discussion, education, and tools (facilitated by me) to help you understand and navigate common themes that come up in midlife and menopause.

Groups would be capped at a maximum 6 people.

Costs would be: £60 per fortnight. This includes your place in the group. And access to me in a 30min one-to-one every other month, where we might discuss how you’re getting on in the group.

Sessions are likely to take place on Tuesdays or Wednesdays but times are yet to be confirmed
