About Lynda Foster
EMDR Therapist, Trauma Specialist & Psychotherapist in Nottingham, Derby & Online
Hello, I’m Lynda
Pronouns: she/her
I love supporting people to grow beyond adversity – helping them to navigate the challenges of stress, anxiety and burnout or heal from tough life experiences.
How my interest developed.
I grew up in a narcissistic household ‘walking on eggshells’ constantly. The toxicity continued into my teens with little support for my shift to adulthood.
But as an adult, I was able to embrace my self-sufficiency, using it to pursue education and an academic career for many years.
My university career was demanding and stressful. Performance pressure was high and bullying was prevalent. I experienced stress, many sleepless nights, and often felt extremely negative about work.
But having done some healing work, and feeling burned out and fed up in my academic career, I decided it was time for a change.
Having learned tons about trauma, and toxic families from my lived experience and own therapy, I retrained as a therapist to help others heal from their traumatic experiences.
I also felt that I could bring some value from my own lived experience of work to help clients make sense of their experiences.
How I help clients in their healing and growth.
When my practice began , I supported many clients with trauma and complex trauma at charities across the East Midlands.
I gave clients tools to cope with everyday life. And I supported them in gaining the insight needed to make changes and feel better about themselves. I’ve continued to support clients with anxiety and trauma in my private practice.
I’ve also worked with clients who struggled to navigate their place at work, including their relationships with co-workers and the pressure to perform. I understood them, having experienced my own professional struggles.
As a former teacher and researcher, I bring my passion for discovery, learning, and growth into client work. I love to update my knowledge and integrate different techniques into my work.
I specialise in EMDR therapy because it provides an evidence-based framework for change, that allows me to help clients make major shifts in their lives.
